A senior official of the University of California, San Francisco, has been appointed the first dean of the University of Texas’ Dell Medical School, according to the American-Statesman.
Clay Johnston, 49, associate vice chancellor of research at UCSF, starts in Austin on March 1.
“It just opens all kinds of opportunities to do it right,” he told the paper. “I’m very excited to move to a new platform and create a medical school that looks like one for the new century rather than the last century.”
His duties include overseeing construction, hiring, curriculum development, and admissions. The school is expected to enroll its first students in fall 2016.
