The UNT Health Science Center has named a new dean of the graduate school of Biomedical Sciences.
The internationally recognized Dr. Meharvan ‘Sonny’ Singh will shed his interim title and move into the full role, which will include leading a $5.8 million research project examining whether hormone treatments for women approaching menopause can benefit their brains.
Singh has worked at UNTHSC since 2001, when he was hired on as an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience. He became a professor in 2010. He was chair of that department from 2011 until 2013 and was interim director of the Institute for Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Research from 2012 to 2013. He has been interim dean since January.
“I am excited and enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve our faculty, staff and students in my new role,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to working with them to identify new collaborative ways by which we enable success.”
