Essilor, a ophthalmic optics company based in Dallas, and NineSigma, a global innovation firmed based in Cleveland, Ohio, announced three innovators have been selected to move to the finals of Essilor’s “See Change Challenge.” The challenge aims to find solutions that allow for better access to vision care.
The three finalists are Adaptive EyeWorksBvba, based in Belgium; IPSELIOS SAS, based in France; and TEAMS Design USA Inc., an American company. Each will be awarded $26,592 in cash. Finalists will produce a prototype for an optics solution that will be evaluated by Essilor. Two winners will later be selected and receive an additional $106,368 ,in addition to a possible development contract with Essilor to build and scale their solutions.
The See Change Challenge has a goal to uncover low-cost, scaleable solutions that make primary vision care training and delivery easier and faster in developing countries by leveraging new technologies through a crowd-sourcing approach. For this challenge, solution providers in 15 countries submitted proposals consisting of apps and devices related to optical engineering, software development, public health, and design fields.
“We are excited that the See Change Challenge has helped us uncover new scaleable approaches that can help improve access to primary vision care in underserved communities,” Hubert Sagnières, chairman and CEO of Essilor, said in a statement.
The two winners will be selected by Essilor in July.
