A Tenet Healthcare hospital plans to shutter two of its physician clinics in South Carolina.
Hardeeville, S.C-based Coastal Carolina Medical Associates, which is part of Tenet-owned Coastal Carolina Hospital, will shut down the clinics by May 19.
According to a statement, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. is “committed to relocating employees to other clinics” from Coastal Carolina Medical Associates. Employees will reportedly work at Hilton Head Regional Healthcare in Hilton Head, S.C.
Coastal Carolina CEO Joel Taylor told the Bluffton Today newspaper that the hospital decided to close the clinics because of “the underutilization of the clinics by residents in the area.” Taylor reported that the clinics only saw from five to 11 patients per day, and the services they provided “were not central to the hospital’s mission.”
“Those two clinics are departments of [Coastal Carolina Hospital],” Taylor said. “Other physician clinics that may have a direct line affiliation to the hospital … are typically run by a separate branch of the same organization. So those two clinics are not really core services of the hospital.”
