The chief operating officer for Texas Health Aetna is the only Texan among 15 people named to Modern Healthcare‘s 2017 class of “Up and Comers.”

The COO, Genevieve D. Caruncho-Simpson, provides overall management for Texas Health Aetna, a health plan company that’s jointly owned by Arlington-based Texas Health Resources and Aetna. She also has oversight of member services, clinical programs, and outsourced services, among other things.

“Genevieve has been instrumental in providing strategic direction and rolling out new initiatives since joining our team in April,” Jeff Cook, CEO of Texas Health Aetna, said in a news release. “She is the driving force behind our Texas Health Aetna ER Doc app and care management programs, and is passionate about providing health care options at the grassroots level.”

The “Up and Comers” awards program, now in its 29th year, recognizes the industry’s rising stars under age 40. This year, Modern Healthcare said, submissions for the program more than doubled from 2016.
