Texas Health Resources has promoted emergency physician and medical informaticist Dr. Luis Saldaña to the position of chief medical information officer. Saldaña had served as the system’s associate CMIO since 2011.
“Dr. Saldaña’s experience in both the clinical and informatics areas benefits Texas Health patients every day,” THR chief health information officer Ferdinand Velasco said. “We are blessed to have a practicing emergency medicine physician with a passion for innovation, quality improvement, operational excellence and patient safety on the Texas Health leadership team.”
As CMIO, Saldaña leads medical informatics initiatives at the 25-hospital system. This includes clinical decision support, physician documentation, and computer physician order entry. He serves as the principal physician leader for the optimization and continued deployment of the systemwide electronic health record, which contains 5.7 million patient records.
Saldaña chairs the system’s CareConnect Physician Advisory Committee and is a member of the Physician Leadership Council and EHR Informatics Cabinet. He previously served as Texas Health’s medical director for clinical decision support. He has served as an emergency physician on the medical staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas since 1997.
