DFW Hospitals Outperform U.S. in Value-Based Purchasing Incentives

Hospitals in the Dallas and Fort Worth Medicare referral districts fared better than the national average in Medicare’s new incentive program that pays for quality of care, according to a Kaiser Health News analysis.

For the 56 hospitals in the Dallas region, 66 percent received a bonus from the value-based purchasing program while the balance are getting penalties. For the 24 Fort Worth region hospitals, 88 percent will be getting bonuses, with the rest receiving penalties. Nationally, 52 percent of hospitals received bonuses

Because of the program, Dallas hospitals will be paid .09 percent more and Fort Worth hospitals .2 percent. The national boost was .02 percent.
