Texas Health Resources chief information officer Edward Marx has been named as the recipient of the 2013 John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year award, given annually to healthcare IT execs who have made significant contributions to their organizations and demonstrated innovative leadership through the effective use of technology.

Marx leads Texas Health’s Innovative Technology Services professionals in developing and implementing strategies to enhance the patient and provider experience through the application of information technology. Since 2006 Texas Health has invested more than $200 million in its EHR, which contains more than 5.7 million patient records.
The award is sponsored by two major national healthcare information technology organizations, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society.
