Dallas County Health and Human Services has reported 33 mumps cases in Dallas County in 2017.
DCHHS identified 27 associated mumps cases between students and teachers in Cedar Hill High School, though not all are Dallas County residents. Between Dallas and Mesquite, DCHHS confirmed six additional mumps cases.
According to DCHHS records, Texas hasn’t reported more than 20 mumps cases since 2011. In 2016, however, North Texas surpassed 50 cases, with eight of them reported in Dallas County.
DCHHS continues to advise getting two vaccinations to prevent infection and spread of the disease. “The increased number of mumps cases reported in the North Texas area underscores the importance of getting vaccinated,” said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director.
