Christus Health has agreed to acquire Lake Charles, La.-based Lake Area Medical Center and its associated assets. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. This will be the second hospital Christus Health has in the area, as it already owns St. Patrick Health System.
Lake Area Medical Center offers inpatient, outpatient, medical, and surgical care for men, women, and children. It is also an accredited bariatric surgery center equipped with an emergency department and a level 3 neonatal ICU.
According to Christus Health, the agreement states the hospital will offer employment to active employees at Lake Area Medical Center “in good standing when the transaction is complete.” Benefits to employed medical staffers are also included. Bryan Bateman, CEO of Lake Area Medical Center, says the sale to Christus “enhance[s] the health services and resources the organization will offer to the [Lake Charles] community.”
Ernie Sadau, president and CEO for Christus Health, says the health system is “committed to ensuring Lake Charles residents continue to have access to compassionate care of the highest quality. … This agreement will ensure the continued availability of high quality care close to home,” Sadau said in a statement.
Lake Area Medical Center will maintain ownership of the hospital and its affiliates until the transaction is complete. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2017.
