Medical City Lewisville Accredited For Bariatric Surgery Program

Medical City Lewisville was recognized as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, a nod toward patient safety and care for patients with severe obesity. The Medical City Lewisville program approaches each patient’s case with a multidisciplinary program in addition to surgical procedures in order to try and improve outcomes and long-term success rates.

According to the National Institutes of Health, severe obesity effects about one in every 25 Americans and increases risk factors in almost all other areas of health. Through metabolic and bariatric surgery, it is possible to address and reduce conditions such as type II diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, among others associated with severe obesity.

With licensing for 186 beds, Medical City Lewisville is a full-service, acute care hospital and a Level III Trauma Center that provides high quality care to Lewisville, Flower Mound and the neighboring area. In addition to Denton county’s only pediatric emergency room and Level III NICU, patients also have access to programs for comprehensive women’s services, cardiovascular, orthopedics, rehabilitation, bariatrics and robotic surgery.

“I am very proud of the dedicated bariatric program team for exemplifying our mission and values by achieving this national accreditation and meeting the highest standards for safety and quality of care for patients seeking surgical treatment for severe obesity and its related conditions,” said CEO of Medical City Lewisville, LaSharndra Barbarin via release. “This accomplishment reinforces Medical City Lewisville’s position as the destination of choice for healthcare excellence.”
