Beleaguered North Texas Medical Center Lands On New CEO

The North Texas Medical Center has chosen its next chief executive officer. The board of the Gainesville-based hospital agreed last week to hire Tom Sledge to the position, as the Gainesville Daily Register reports. Sledge has been working as the chief operating officer at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Arkansas, and is also a former COO at rural Weatherford Regional Medical Center, before it was bought by Medical City Healthcare. Plano-based Community Hospital Corp., which manages NTMC, recommended an incentive-laden salary with a $225,000 base, according to the Daily Register. North Texas Medical Center CEO Steps Down As New Management Takes Over

Chris Zeringue will step down as CEO of Gainesville-based North Texas Medical Center (NTMC), opting not to continue employment at the hospital just two weeks after its board approved a salary offer for Zeringue that came in $45,000 lower than his request. Both Zeringue and Chief Nursing Officer Angela Yancey decided to return to Texoma Medical Center. The two had been on loan from the Denison-based hospital during the year in which Universal Health Services (UHS), which manages Texoma, was also managing NTMC. Plano Company Inks Five-year Deal to Manage Struggling North Texas Hospital

Plano-based Community Hospital Consulting has finalized a five-year management agreement to try to right the ship at Gainesville-based North Texas Medical Center, the company said this week. The group, which is the management and consulting arm of Community Hospital Corporation, will take over operations on May 1. The agreement follows news in January that a previous hospital management company was dropping out of its agreement. That company, Pennsylvania-based Universal Health System, took the reigns after NTMC filed for bankruptcy in Dec. 2016. Struggling Gainesville Hospital Selects Plano Management Company

The North Texas Medical Center in Gainesville will come under the management of Plano-based Community Hospital Corp. in May, NTMC board members voted last week, according to KXII-TV. In December 2016, NTMC said it was filing for Chapter 9 bankruptcy and taking on new management by Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Systems. Under the agreement, UHS was to take over operations and lease five buildings on NTMC’s campus. NTMC announced that UHS would discontinue the agreement in late January.
